Momentum is growing at Panasonic Energy's state-of-the-art facility in De Soto, Kansas, as preparations for its grand opening take shape. In January, we opened the doors at our DeSoto facility to host site visits for local media and officials. Visitors got to see firsthand the scale and impact of this project, showcasing how this facility is setting new benchmarks in EV technology and driving regional economic development.

Standing on the site, the transformative impact of this facility becomes clear—it will shape both the local and global landscapes. Built to scale production of Panasonic’s renowned 2170 EV batteries, this cutting-edge facility is a critical step in addressing the growing demand for electric vehicles. With an initial production capacity of 30 GWh and mass production slated for 2025, the site is poised to drive efficiency, achieve economies of scale, and pave the way for a net-zero emissions future.

This project highlights the immense potential of Kansas and Panasonic Energy’s belief in the power of its people. Around 1,800 Kansans have already benefited from local hiring initiatives, including construction workers who laid the foundation for this monumental endeavor. Collaboration has been key, with Panasonic partnering closely with state and federal officials, industry leaders, and community groups.
More residents throughout the Kansas City metro are being hired and trained through ongoing partnerships with local community colleges. That work delivers on Panasonic’s promise to grow the economy and create jobs in the region. As anticipated, the workforce hiring has been concentrated within a 50-mile radius of the De Soto facility.

Special thanks go to KDOT for enhancing road infrastructure and safety to seamlessly connect the factory to surrounding areas. Newly elected leaders also bring fresh perspectives, adding momentum to the shared mission of growth, innovation, and sustainability.

Together, we are not just manufacturing batteries; we are shaping a legacy of sustainable innovation and fostering a spirit of community empowerment that will firmly establish Kansas as a driving force in the global EV market for generations to come.
